LUDSS Fundraising

Do you fancy doing 'The 3 Peaks Challenge?' Day walks in Snowdonia? A sponsored swim? a 10km run? The London Marathon? A sponsored hitch-hike? A prison-break style escape from Liverpool with  limited funds - get as far as you can in 24 hrs? Less energetic - would you attend cake sales? wine and champagne tasting evenings? Quizzes? Fundraising nights out?

As your student society committee for this year, we have charity fundraising very high on our agenda!  And we would love for you to get involved!  Our aim is to ensure that students of all years get to know each other and have a great time - through attending charity events, practice events, socials etc.

This year we will have a fantastic brand new common room. We will have a fundraising barometer to measure our success. We will keep you informed of all events that we have planned via THIS WEBSITE. Our charity fundraising will offer you a great way to get to know staff and students throughout the school. More than this it will look great on your C.V. and offer you a lot of fun times doing great things for charity!!!

We are delighted to have a committee of custodial clinical staff : Dr Boyle, Dr Carragher, Dr Urbanska, Dr Fox, Dr Adeyemi, Dr Jarad, as well as technical staff. These staff will ensure that the charity work can be continued when we are no longer here as the committee. They will further ensure that all decisions made with regard to charities to be supported, are impartial and based on good judgement.

We recently had our first meeting 13.07.10 to help decide the charities to be supported in 2010/11. Thank you to all who attended! The outcome of this meeting was that we should support one "health related" charity, possibly abroad, where we have a good direct link to the charity. This could allow students to see the direct impact that we have through our charity work. This charity may also provide opportunity for students to visit the charity and get involved in the work that is being carried out. We will also support one more local charity in Liverpool. For both charities we must be satisfied that a minimal amount of funds raised is spent on admin, marketing etc. We do not wish to support large national charities that are already well known and supported, we do not deny the great work that they do but we feel the funds that we raise will be more useful to smaller 'younger' charities.  These charities will be decided by September 2010.

We would love for you to be involved next year! And you can play as large or as small a role as you wish. Simply attending our events is great, but if you wish to put forward ideas or help to organise events your time would be really appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

John Cato and Matt Hawkrigg, Social Secretaries 2010/11.
