I first heard about Bridge2aid at the Liverpool BDA dental conference and, after doing my own research for future job options, they sent me information which included leaflets on fundraising events in the UK. I posted a few posters around the dental hospital and with the help of Becci, we got two teams together to enter the event. Both teams had to be sponsored a minimum of £500 to enter but as it was going to a very good relevant charity; everyone was willing to make the effort to get sponsored. Fran organised a £5 per person night out bar crawl that help greatly with team Adrenaline's sponsorship fund.

We all came away feeling really happy that we had helped a very worthwhile charity and we gained a better understanding of how we could use our skills as future dentists in a bigger scale way.  Hopefully us entering the event will make more people in the dental school aware of the desperate need for help in dental care in 3rd world countries and that even more of us will enter events like this in the future.

Bridge2Aid is a charity working in the Mwanza region of North West Tanzania. They work closely with the Tanzanian Government to deliver aspects of their dental strategy, operate a not-for-profit dental clinic in the city of Mwanza, and have a community development programme for the poor.

On the day it was perfect sunny weather and everyone had loads a fun! We had two teams:

ADRENALINE (Esther, Sarah, Danielle, Chris, Matt, (3rd years) and Andy, Fran, Chloe, Nic, Marc (2nd years))

007 BONDING AGENTS (Rebecca, Grace, Katie, Rishi, Andy Jones (2nd years) Ross, Rob, Mahir, Ted (3rd years))

We competed in various inflatable challenges throughout the day against 12 other teams. There were prizes for best dressed team, most money raised and the team with the most points after everyone had competed. We met dentists who work in Africa who gave us lots of ideas for fund raising events in the future and possible opportunities for VT positions. Team ADRENALINE won the best dressed team prize  (thanks to Andy Davies who made team Adrenaline’s costumes), they raised £555 and scored 290 (2nd place). 007 BONDING AGENTS raised £615 and scored 260 (equal 7th place). The winning team scored a massive 335 points and came all the way from Holland!. A few of us got to speak to some of the bridge2aid workers who told us about amazing work they do and how it makes such a impact to the people of Tanzania.
